1 How good is life, and length of days!
Far happier, when we learn God's praise.
Though strength or skills may bring us fame
our best rewards are in his name.

2 To work and rest can both be sweet;
in Christ alone are both complete.
We learn to run, to ride, to swim,
but better far, to walk with him.

3 Designs and colours please our eyes;
God's wisdom brings a richer prize.
Fine music makes the heart rejoice
but better far, to hear God's voice.

4 What joy are friends, and health restored!
What greater joy, to love the Lord!
To govern is a noble thing,
but better far, to serve the King.

5 Our birth and death are times of tears,
but Jesus lives, and rules the years.
As generations rise and fall,
to live in Christ is best of all.
