Hilary Jolly

Biography

Educated at Watford Girls' Grammar School and École d’Études Bilingues du Lycée FranÇais de Londres. Worked as a typesetter until she gave up full-time work to care for a sick daughter.

Hilary Jolly was the prize-winning text writer in the Millennium Hymn Competition sponsored by Saint Paul's Cathedral, London. Both her parents were teachers and she began writing poetry at an early age. Encourged by Chris Hayward, then Director of Music at the Round Church, Cambridge, she began writing hymns. Today her works are represented by Jubilate Hymns Ltd in the UK, and Hope Publishing Company in the USA and Canada.

Lyrics

Born of Adam, torn from Eden
Hilary Jolly
Let us rejoice! The servants of our Lord
Hilary Jolly
O I have heard the gospel told
Hilary Jolly
O Mary, rock your little boy
Hilary Jolly
Oh lead me in your will, Redeemer
Hilary Jolly
Though we come before you tainted by our sin
Hilary Jolly
Through the darkness of the ages
