So dies this man, this carpenter
1 So dies this man, this carpenter;
his cause, his kingdom scorned.
A dismal figure on a cross,
deserted, scarcely mourned.
2 So dies this man; brother to all
the poor and the oppressed.
'Come unto me', he said to them,
'and I will give you rest'.
3 So dies this man 'Father, forgive',
his last and loving word.
Each one who hastened him to death
is brought in prayer to God.
4 So lives this man, this carpenter;
no less a one than he
could rise to mend this broken world
and claim our loyalty.
