After Psalm 8

Nothing, Sovereign Lord, can equal
your renown throughout the earth -
heaven boasts no greater glory
than your priceless worth!
From the lips of babes and infants
You draw forth a stream of praise,
silencing the fiercest critic
with a simple phrase.

When I see the starry heavens,
all your hand has set in place,
then my soul is filled with wonder
at your power and grace.
What are we, the undeserving? -
you regard us with delight
and preserve our sons and daughters,
precious in your sight.

You made people in your image
and intended them to be
crowned with glory and distinction,
ruling land and sea.
Yet the violence of nature
still has never been subdued;
humans fail, and all creation
waits to be renewed.

We shall see your Son our Saviour,
at whose cross we are forgiven,
when he brings us to the glory
of your home in heaven.
Evil will be devastated,
death forever lose its sting,
all created life confessing
"Jesus Christ is King!"

Nothing, Sovereign Lord, can equal
your renown throughout the earth -
heaven boasts no greater glory
than your priceless worth!
