After Psalm 2

1 Why such turmoil in the nations,
why did rulers take their stand?
They conspired to thwart God's purpose,
breaking free from his command.
Their defiance roused God's anger:
he asserted that the One
chosen worthy to be Sovereign
was his own begotten Son.

2 Jesus died to save the guilty,
rose to reign in truth and grace;
still the church on earth is growing,
gathered out of every race.
Strongholds shall at last be shattered,
tyrants fall and conflict cease,
crushed beneath the staff of justice
of the shepherd King of peace.

3 Lord, grant wisdom to our leaders:
may they heed your warning voice,
may they worship you with reverence
and with trembling hearts rejoice.
Let them yield their full allegiance,
seeking shelter while they may;
for in Christ alone is safety
and the path to endless day.
