1 They killed him as a common thief,
they saw no King in his eyes;
they drew his royal redeeming blood
below the darkening skies:
then Christ,
Jesus the Lord,
sounded a loud triumphant cry
his work on earth was done,
dying for all!

2 They laid him in a borrowed tomb,
they saw the death in his eyes;
they rolled the door of heavy stone
below the sorrowing skies:
then Christ,
Jesus the King,
stood among all, the Lord of Life;
and Christ had conquered death,
living for all!
