1 Jesus, child of Mary born,
Son of God and Lord most high;
come to wear a crown of thorn,
bravely come to die.

2 To this place of pain and fear
love descends in human guise;
God in Christ self-emptied here,
foolishness most wise:

3 Infant in a manger laid,
wrapped about with peasant shawl;
gift of grace so freely made,
saviour for us all.

4 Angel hosts the skies adorn,
we with shepherds glorify
Jesus, child of Mary born,
Son of God most high.
