After Psalm 142

1 In desperate times, O Lord,
your mercy I entreat
and, crying out in anguish, lay
my sorrows at your feet.

2 When I am overwhelmed
you keep my path in view,
its secret hazards, cruel snares
concealed - but not from you.

3 Then, everywhere I look
I find that no-one cares
and, destitute, I turn to you,
besieging you with prayers.

4 When those who hunt me down
are closing in on me -
O Lord my refuge, hear my call
and come to set me free.

5 And when you act in love,
securing my release,
your people will rejoice with me
and praise the Lord of peace!
