Down to the lords of earth
1 Down to the lords of earth
came Mary's infant boy,
in mystery of birth
to bring undying joy;
he came to heal, to teach and win
for us the gift of cancelled sin.
2 The friend of sinners he,
the sin itself the bane;
his arms flung wide that we
eternal life might gain;
the Servant-Lord of all things came
to die for sin who bore no blame.
3 What King is this we see
who serves his people thus?
What Cornerstone is he
who bows to death for us?
Beyond all human words is he
who is and evermore shall be.
