1 As the deer longs for water
my soul longs for you, Lord,
my soul is thirsty for the living God
I long to see his face.

2 Day and night I am weeping.
My soul is poured out, Lord,
each day I hear it said, 'Where is your God?'
I long to see Your face.

3 In the past I was leading
the praise in your house, Lord,
with shouts of thankful joy amidst the crowd
yet now I am depressed.

4 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
And why are you groaning?
Renew your hope in God, and praise him still.
He is your saving help.

5 Through the day he shows mercy,
and so, in the evening,
I sing to him with praise upon my lips.
In my life He is God.

6 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
And why are you groaning?
Renew your hope in God and praise him still.
He is your saving help.
