1 No frightened shepherds now
to stand amazed and quake with fear;
but we, surprised by joy,
come willingly to Jesus here.
2 No wooden manger bed,
where we may kneel in silent awe;
yet now we kneel in faith
and see, by faith, what angels saw.
3 No choirs of angels now
to fill a starlit Christmas sky;
yet, East to West, there rings
the worship of the Lord most high.
4 No Eastern Magi here,
no gold or frankincense or myrrh;
yet each as precious now
these hearts of ours as gifts that were.
