Roger Mayor
Born in Cheshire on 16 June 1951, son of John Mayor who founded St David's College Llandudno.
Studied at Wrekin College; Stony Brook School, New York; Goldsmiths' College and Trent Park, London University; and Capernwray Bible College, Lancashire.
He lives in a village just outside Norwich and is married to Penny. He is a composer and record producer.
His CDs include 'Breath of life', 'In his presence', 'No greater God', and 'Out of the world'. Of his 10 CDs the 1977 album 'Gentle Touch' on the ICC label won the Gospel 'Album Of The Year' Award. His most recent composition and latest CD is an Oratorio: 'Julian' - Mystical Revelations. The libretto is an adaptation of the spiritual and literary classic 'Revelations Of Divine Love' by Julian of Norwich. The work was recorded in Norwich Cathedral.
In 1993 he co-edited 'Hymns for the People' with David Peacock, Christopher Norton and Michael Perry; he has also edited and arranged 'Worship! Contemporary Hymn Accompaniments'.
Roger Mayor is a member of the Church of England committed to evangelism in a user-friendly environment, and to balancing old and new in worship. He has expressed this commitment, among many other projects, through the 'Music in Worship Foundation'. Among books featuring several of his tunes and arrangements are 'Church Family Worship (1988), 'Sing Glory' (1999)' and 'Praise!' (2000). See Roger's own website at www.rogermayor.co.uk.
