Mollie Knight
Born in 1917.
She trained as a teacher and worked in primary schools in Surrey. She married Trevor Knight and together they belonged to Purley Baptist Church.
In retirement in 1987, Mollie Knight contributed two texts to \'Carol Praise\' and paraphrases to \'Songs from the Psalms\' and \'Psalms for Today\' (1990), some of which had appeared earlier in local collections and in \'The Book of Praises\' (1986).
By this time she was one of the wider \'Jubilate\' network of writers. David Preston contributed to the final form in which some of her work appeared; much of her writing is marked by a clear note of Christian joy.
Mollie Knight\'s best-known text is a straightforward version of Psalm 127, \'Unless the Lord constructs the house\', one of three of hers included in \'Praise!\' (2000). Another, from Psalm 103, is \'Praise the Lord! My soul is singing\', set to the tune \'Melodious Sonnet\'.
She died in 1993.
