Gordon Langford
Born in Edgware, London in 1930, Gordon showed an early interest in playing and writing music - he had piano lessons from the age of 5 and his first composition was performed in public at age 9. He won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he also studied the trombone. He made his first BBC broadcast as a solo pianist in 1951.
During the 1960s he was featured in many BBC programmes as pianist, arranger and composer and he appeared at the Royal Festival Hall and at the Light Music Festivals.
He won the Ivor Novello award in 1971 and was twice winner of the European Broadcasting Union's competition for new music for brass. He has written music for the King's Singers, the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and has produced orchestrations for several West End shows and many American movies including 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.
Gordon now lives in semi-retirement in East Devon but still writes and makes recording, concert and broadcasting appearances.
