Born at Wallington, Surrey.

Educated at Dulwich College, Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and Trinity College, Bristol.

Married to Diana Mowbray with four grown-up daughters.

Anglican vicar who has served at Northampton; Watford, Hertfordshire; Broxbourne, Hertfordshire; Hertford; and Darley Abbey, Derbyshire.

Retired to Lincoln in 2003.

Causes dear to his heart are Christian Aid, Bruckner's symphonies, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Britten, and walking in rural England.
